TIPS FOR THE RACE WEEKEND

Here are a few useful tips to make sure you enjoy every moment of your NASCAR experience in San Diego.

Arrive early and soak up the atmosphere.

Getting to the track early is one of the best decisions you can make, especially on race day. Gates usually open several hours before the green flag, giving you plenty of time to find your seat, explore the fan zone, grab some food, and enjoy the pre-race entertainment. It’s far better to relax and take in the build-up than to be sitting in traffic or waiting in long entry lines.

Plan your route and parking in advance.

Traffic around major events in San Diego can be heavy, particularly near the track and freeway exits. Before race weekend, check your route, parking passes, and entry gate locations. If possible, book your parking space ahead of time or consider using public transport or a shuttle service if it’s available. Having a clear arrival plan saves time and stress.

Prepare for warm, sunny weather.

June in San Diego can be deceptive — mornings may start cool and cloudy, but afternoons often turn bright and warm. Dress in light, breathable clothing, wear sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat, and keep a refillable water bottle with you. There’s plenty of pavement and limited shade at most race venues, so hydration and sun protection are key to staying comfortable.

Stay connected — but have a backup plan.

Cell networks often get overloaded on race day, especially on Sunday when crowds peak. Coordinate with friends or family in advance and agree on a specific meeting point in case you get separated. You’ll save time and avoid unnecessary frustration trying to reconnect through a slow network.

Explore the fan zone and local attractions.

NASCAR weekends in San Diego aren’t just about the racing — there’s live music, driver appearances, and plenty of interactive displays to enjoy. Plan a little extra time to wander around and take it all in. If you’re staying longer, explore the local area too: downtown San Diego, the Gaslamp Quarter, and the waterfront are just a short drive away and full of great restaurants and entertainment.

Pack smart and stay comfortable.
Bring essentials like ear protection, a portable phone charger, a rain poncho (just in case), and comfortable walking shoes. Remember, it’s a long day at the track — comfort makes all the difference.
