The Coronado Street Course is one of the newest and most ambitious additions to American motorsport. Designed to bring pure racing directly into the heart of the city, the track was created as part of NASCAR’s growing initiative to host more urban events that connect racing with vibrant city environments.
While San Diego had never before hosted a top-level street race, its wide boulevards, scenic waterfront, and world-famous skyline made it a natural candidate. Following the success of NASCAR’s Chicago Street Race concept, local and national organizers began working together to bring a similar event to Southern California — a region long associated with car culture and motorsport passion.
The circuit winds through San Diego, offering spectacular views of the bay, the marina, and the city’s landmarks. Every corner was designed to balance safety with excitement, creating a layout that challenges drivers while showcasing the city’s character.
The inaugural Anduril 250 “Race the Base” marks the beginning of this new chapter, combining cutting-edge racing technology with an urban festival atmosphere. The event not only celebrates San Diego’s rich automotive heritage but also represents the continuing evolution of NASCAR and American motorsport toward more inclusive, fan-focused city events.
